About ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist)

Under National Rural Health every village in the country will be provided with an ASHA.

ASHAs are community health workers instituted by the Union Government’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) as a part of the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

The main aim of the ASHA scheme is to provide every village in the country with a trained female community health activist ASHA.

The ASHAs, who are selected from the village itself, are trained to work as an interface between the community and the public health system.
