Gujarat Government forms the panel to check crop insurance complaints: Details, Aim, Purpose, Highlights

Gujarat government announced the formation of a committee to check into the complaints of farmers who have not received timely compensation for crop loss.

The committee includes Gujarat Agriculture Minister R C Faldu. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will directly supervise the committee.

Erring insurance companies will be reported directly to the Central government. The committee will soon hold a meeting with the chairman and managing directors of insurance companies that offer crop loans in Gujarat, to tackle this issue.

Under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) more than 12 lakh farmers in Gujarat have been covered during the ongoing Kharif 2018 season. This scheme was introduced in Kharif 2016.

More than Rs 374 crore has been collected from farmers as premium through this PMFBY scheme.
