Postal Department: No mandatory basis for bookings of international parcel

Postal Department to accept various documents for international parcels

The Postal Department announced on September 10, 2018, that the basis for bookings of international parcels is not mandatory. However, this may be an alternative document of identity.

Indian Postal Department made it clear that it is not necessary to send the international parcel and international (EMS) merchandise goods from one place to another or the Aadhaar card for such other services of the department. The department will also accept identification documents such as driving license, passport, voter ID card, including consumer base card for security reasons.

These days, the Aadhaar card, which is becoming common with identity points in the country, is not required for booking in the postal department. The postal department said that they will use these documents only for office records. The department clarified that it is mandatory to show acceptable identification card for important reasons like booking international parcel or international ems (item) for security reasons.

The postal department informed that the situation of confusion arose in this case when a post was tweeted on behalf of the Chief General Postmaster Office (Delhi) in this regard. The Delhi Circle tweeted that he had sought identification documents only on the basis of international guidelines. The Department has sent a copy of this order to all its departments in this regard.
