National Film Award: Dadasaheb Phalke Award, History, Winners List 

Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest award (a lifetime achievement award), awarded to a film personality for the outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian Cinema.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award is started from 1969 by Government of India. It is named after the father of Indian cinema Dadasaheb Phalke, conferred on the commemorating of Dadasaheb Phalke’s contribution to Indian Cinema.

It is honored annually at the National Film Festival Awards Ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award contains Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) Medallion, a cash prize of Rs. 10 Lakhs along with a shawl.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award Winners:

Some notable recipient in Hindi Cinema is Actress Devika Rani was the first awardee in Hindi Cinema, who won Dadasaheb Phalke award in the year 1969 at the 17th National Film Awards. She was known as the first lady of Indian Cinema.

Prithviraj Kapoor has been awarded posthumously, his actor film-maker son Raj Kapoor accepted the award on his behalf in 1971 (19th National Film award), Prithviraj Kapoor started in India’s first sound film “Alarm Ara” in 1931.

Vinod Khanna has been awarded posthumously Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2017 (65th National film award), He debuted in Man Ka Meet (1968),  

Sridevi has been awarded posthumously Dadasaheb Phalke Award for best actress for Mom and Pankaj Tripathi for Newton in 2018 (66th National film award).
