At the International Conference on Decarbonisation of Indian Railways-Mission Electrification, Railway Ministry launched various actions plans.
The Ministry has planned for Electrification of Railway Tracks to reduce fuel consumption by Rs.10,000 crore annually.
They are planning to target 2,000 Rkm in 2016-17, 4000 Rkm in 2017-18, 6000 Rkm in 2018-19 and 6200 Rkm in 2019-21.
The Ministry has also planned to reduce cost and carbon footprints through utilizing renewable energy.
Ministry will also introduce new energy efficient rolling stock through projects like Electro Loco Manufacturing Factory in Bihar and MELPL.
Indian Railways has also introduced Head on Generation system under which air-conditioning, lightning etc. will be provided directly from electric power to save diesel.
Railways will be manufacturing energy efficient electric locomotive from DLW Varanasi.
