Saalumarada Thimmakka or Alada Marada Timakka famously called as ' Tree Mata' is an Indian environmentalist hails from Hulikal village in Karnataka.
Saalumarada Thimmakkahas is famous for planting over 8,000 trees during a period of 65 years alone and with the help of her husband who died in the year1991.
Saalumarada Thimmakk got the title of ' Tree Mata' for planting about 400 banyan trees along a 4 km stretch of highway from her village Hulikal to Kudur in Karnataka.
Saalumarada Thimmakka (approx 107-years-old) was born in Gubbi Taluk, Tumukuru District in Karnataka. She married to Chikkaiah, a native of Hulikal village in Karnataka. She has no children but adopted a son named Umesh.
Saalumarada Thimmakka did not receive formal education and worked as a casual laborer in nearby fields.
Saalumarada Thimmakka work has been praised at state, national & international level. She has been honored with several awards in her life.
Saalumarada Thimmakka received the National Citizen's Award of India (1995).
