March 27: World Theatre Day Celebrations 2019 Theme, Details, Aim, Significance

World Theatre Day (WTD) is celebrated every year on 27th March around the world, to draw attention to the power of the stage and tells the importance of theater arts as it continues to move, entertain, teach and change us.

World Theatre Day is marked 14for those who can see the value and importance of the art form “theatre”, and acts as a wake-up call for governments, politicians, and institutions which have not yet recognized its value to the people and to the individual and have not yet realized its potential for economic growth.

World Theatre Day was first instituted & celebrated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI), the world organization for performing arts.

World Theatre Day is annually celebrated by the ITI centres and the international theatre community. On this day several national and international theatre events are organized.

About Indian Theatre

Indian theatre is one of the most ancient forms of Indo-European and Asian theatre and it features a detailed textual, sculptural, and dramatic effects.

Like in the areas of music and dance, the Indian theatre is also defined by the dramatic performance defined by the concept of Natya, which is a Sanskrit word for drama but encompasses dramatic narrative, virtuosic dance, and music.
