India’s Sunil Chhetri Levels Messi Record, Joint 2nd Highest International Goal Scorer

Indian talismanic football team captain Sunil Chhetri (33 years old) became joint second highest international goal scorer among active players along with Argentine superstar footballer Lionel Messi.

Sunil Chhetri achieved this feat after he scored his 64th goal in the match between India and Kenya in Intercontinental Cup summit clash in Mumbai, Maharashtra. In this match, Sunil Chhetri scored two goals.

Sunil Chhetri's played his 102nd international match, making him only the second Indian to feature in 100 international matches after former skipper Bhaichung Bhutia. In terms of goals scored.

Sunil Chhetri and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi are currently in joint 21st in the all-time list of goal scorers.

Sunil Chhetri and Lionel Messi are only behind Portuguese superstar football player Cristiano Ronaldo who has 81 goals from 150 matches.

Sunil Chhetri, who became only the second Indian to feature in 100 international matches after former skipper Bhaichung Bhutia, had earlier equaled Zlatan Ibrahamovic of Sweden and World Cup winner Brazilian Ronaldo in the match against New Zealand.
