MeerKAT Telescope History, Features, Objectives, Role for Square Kilometer Array Telescope, Role in search of Extra-Terrestrial Life (Alien)

In Southern Hemisphere had build largest MeerKAT telescope to search for the Aliens. The telescope was originally known as the Karoo Array Telescope (KAT) that would consist of 20 receptors. When the South African government increased the budget to allow the building of 64 receptors, the team re-named it MeerKAT – ie more of KAT.

Breakthrough Listen is a science-based program to search for intelligent extraterrestrial communications in the Universe. With $100 million in funding and thousands of hours of dedicated telescope time on state-of-the-art facilities, it is the most comprehensive search for alien communications to date and it is coordinated by South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO).

MeerKAT survey will examine a million individual stars- 1,000 times the number of targets in any previous search-in the quietest part of the radio spectrum monitoring for signs of extraterrestrial technology.

The MeerKAT telescope will be used for research into cosmic magnetism, galactic evolution, large-scale structure of cosmos, dark matter and the nature of transient radio source. It will also serve as a technology demonstrator for South Africa's bid to host the Square Kilometer Array.
