PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates India's Longest Railroad 'Bogibeel Bridge' In Assam: Details, Features, Significance, Highlights

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the birth anniversary of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee which is observed as “Good Governance Day” i.e 25th December 2018, inaugurates & opened the Bogibeel railroad bridge in Assam, billed as India's longest railroad bridge.

The Bogibeel bridge is claimed to be Asia's second-largest Railroad bridge after Danyang–Kunshan Grand Bridge of China.

The Bogibeel bridge is 4.94 km long in length. The double-decker rail and road bridge, on the Brahmaputra river, will cut down the train-travel time between Tinsukia in Assam to Naharlagun town of Arunachal Pradesh by more than 10 hours.

The Bogibeel bridge is built by the Indian Railways, it is the double-decker bridge is strong enough to withstand movement of heavy military tanks. Its foundation was laid on 22nd January 1997. 

The Bogibeel bridge will connect the south bank of the Brahmaputra river in Assam’s Dibrugarh district with Silapathar in Dhemaji district, bordering Arunachal Pradesh. The railways have reduced the distance between Dhemaji and Dibrugarh from 500 Kms to 100 km with the completion of the project.

PM Narendra Modi also flagged off a train name the Tinsukia-Naharlagun Intercity Express, which will run 5 days a week.
