General Knowledge: How the cyclones are named in Indian Ocean

 

 

Cyclones naming by countries in Indian Ocean region Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand 

Hudhud, Leeja, Lairy, Bulbul, Pailin, Hurricane are the different names of cyclones.

The first time when the cyclones was named in the year 1953 in Atlantic area in world.

Eight countries weather department in Indian Ocean start naming cyclone from 2004

Eight countries of the Indian Ocean region took an initiative of the cyclonic storms of Indian systems in 2004.

These eight countries were Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Oman and Thailand.

The member stated suggested the names and which were later on selected.

Pakistan suggested the name Vardah of the cyclone while Oman suggested the name ‘Hudhud’ and ‘Falin’ was suggested by Thailand.

India suggested the name ‘wave’ and in total 64 names of cyclones were listed.

Ajit Tyagi, former director general of Indian Meteorological Department stated that cyclone naming convention 1953 and Miami based hurricane is starting the initiative again.
