Railway Ministry and Urban Development Ministry have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for smart railway stations.
It has been agreed that 500 stations will be redeveloped and the surrounding areas to also be developed.
The countries like Belgium, UK, Japan, France and Germany are ready to invest in the redevelopment of railways.
In the beginning 10 railway cities will be taken up for the development and then another 100 cities will be taken up with the involvement of National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC)
These cities include Varanasi, Lucknow, Bhubaneshwar, Sarai Rohilla (delhi), Thane, Kota, Margao (Goa), Jaipur, Tirupati and Puducherry.
The 100 stations will be connecting to the 300-800 acres of area and will be redeveloped for smart cities under AMRUT schemes.
