Prime Minister Narendra Modi is launching ‘Fit India Movement’ on 29th August 2019, with an aim to encourage people to instill physical activity and sports in their everyday routine.
Fit India Movement will be launch with the slogan 'Discover the new you'.
For ‘Fit India Movement’ initiative, a 28 member committee headed by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju was formed to advise the Modi 2.0 Government.
The 28 members of the committee are secretaries of Sports, Secondary Education, Ayush, Youth Affairs, among other members that include IOA President and 7 NSF heads of boxing, athletics, football, and cycling.
In recent times, it is seen that many challenges and campaigns are initiated such as 'Hum Fit to India Fit’ or bottle cap challenge, etc.
Also, PM Narendra Modi, morning walk also got popular which was inspired by five elements of nature — ‘Prithvi’, ‘Jal’, ‘Agni’, ‘Vayu’ and ‘Aakash’.
India has already improved its ranking on global healthcare access and quality (HAQ) index (based on 32 causes of death which could be prevented through proper medical care) from 153 in 1990 to 145 in 2016.
