Oxford English Dictionary (OED) added 70 new Indian words like Dadagiri, Abba, Anna, Achcha, Bapu etc in the month of September 2017
The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) has been added to 70 new India words like Dadagiri, Abba, Natak, Jugaad, Surya Namaskar, Anna, Achcha, Bapu etc in the month of September 2017.
These Indian words from various regional languages like Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Bengali, and Gujarati that were added to the dictionary. The dictionary also added over 1000 new words in its September edition.
The words Anna already existed in the dictionary as a noun, meaning a former monetary unit of India and Pakistan, equal to one-sixteenth of a rupee.
Anna 2 (also Annan), noun, has been added, meaning elder brother Abba, the Urdu word for the father has also been added.
