Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was born on 25 September 1916, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya father was an astrologer and mother was a religious lady.

Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya was a brilliant student. He won two gold medal during his studies, first when he matriculated from Sikar and second was when he was intermediate from Birla college. Both time he was awarded 250 Rs for Books and 10 Rs monthly scholarship.

Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya came to contact with RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) through his classmate, later he met the RSS founder Dr K. B. Hedgewar.

Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya underwent RSS training from 1939 to 1942 in RSS headquarter Nagpur.

Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya entered politics through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, became the General Secretary of the Bharatiya Jan Sangh, and later its President.

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was active in India's political life from 1937 to 1968.

Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya edited PanChjanya and Swadesh from Lucknow. In Hindi, he wrote a drama on Chandragupta Maurya, and later wrote a biography of Shankaracharya. He translated a Marathi biography of Hedgewar.

In December 1967, Upadhyaya was elected president of the Jana Sangh. In the evening of 10 February 1968, at Lucknow, he boarded the Sealdah Express for Patna. 

Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya was found dead under mysterious circumstances on 11 February 1968 nearby Mughal Sarai Station.
