World Ocean Day Observed On 8th June 2018- Theme, Details, History, Purpose

World Oceans Day is observed every year on 8th June around the world to promote and spread awareness about the crucial importance of our oceans and their role in piloting a sustainable healthy planet.

World Oceans Day encourages people and organizations together across the world in a series of events highlighting how we can all help protect and converse the oceans.

World Oceans Day is celebrated to remind everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe.

World Ocean Day-2018 this year Theme is "Preventing Plastic Pollution and Encouraging Solutions for a Healthy Ocean".

World Oceans Day was first declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) through its resolution 63/111 of December 5, 2008, designated 8 June as the World Oceans Day.

World Oceans Day was first proposed in 1992 at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro as a way to celebrate world’s shared ocean and to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives.
