The Afghan Taliban confirmed that the founder of the Haqqani militant network has died. The Taliban said Jalaluddin Haqqani passed away after a prolonged illness.
Jalaluddin Haqqani was the founder of Afghanistan's most feared terrorist group. He joined the Hezb-i Islamic Khalis in 1978and became a Mujahid in Afghanistan. No details have been mentioned in the statement about the date and place of Jalaluddin Haqqani’s death.
The Haqqani network had played an important role behind several co-ordinates attacks on Afghan and Nato forces in recent years. It was founded in 1980 as the most favored CIA funded anti-Soviet guerilla group by the Reagon administration. In 2012, the United States designated the Haqqani Network as a terrorist organization.
The group's leadership is based in Pakistan. The group demands that the US and Coalition Forces made up mostly of NATO Nations withdraw from Afghanistan and no longer interfere with the politics or educational systems of Islamic Nations.
