Donald Trump And Kim Jong Un Held Delegation Level Talks For First Time, Sign Document On Denuclearization- Details, Aim, Conclusion, Background

In a historic first, delegation level talks between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held on 12th June 2018 at the Sentosa island in Singapore.

It aimed at normalising ties and resolve seven decades of hostilities between the world’s largest nuclear power and the largely isolated, North Korean state.

The world’s two of the most powerful leaders held a brief one-on-one meeting held for the first time, a sitting US president has met a North Korean leader in the last 60 years.

The United States decided to provide security guarantees to North Korea, in exchange for Pyongyang's firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula. 

This is according to the joint document which was signed by US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un following their historic maiden talks at Singapore's Sentosa island.

Both the nation's leader committed to establishing new relations in accordance with the desire of the people of the two countries for peace and prosperity, leaving past behind.

Donald Trump also invited the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to the White House and said that they will meet many more times now.

India, China, Russia, European Union praised the summit between both the leaders and hope for peace in future.

Background

The exchange of threats between the two leaders had led the world to fear the possibility of a nuclear war.

US President Donald Trump had canceled the historic Singapore Summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on May 24, 2018, accusing North Korea of tremendous anger and open hostility.

However, upon the announcement of cancellation, the North Korean leaders reverted saying that they were ready to meet anytime and anywhere.

On 25th May 2018, Donald Trump announced that he will hold the Singapore Summit with Kim Jong Un, following which the lines of communication between the United States and North Korea regarding reinstating the June 12 summit, reopened.
