L&T And BEL Signed MoU To Develop Defence Products- Details, Features, Purpose

In a bid to indigenize the defense sector under the 'Make in India' initiative, Infrastructure giant Larsen and Toubro (L&T) and the state-owned Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 11th April 2018 in DefExpo-2018.

The MoU aims to develop and manufacture defence products and systems for domestic and export markets.

The MoU was signed with an objective to strengthen the capabilities of both the entities for meeting the growing requirements of the Indian Armed Forces, Larsen and Toubro (L&T).

The MoU also aims to capture the well developed supply chain, vast experience and expertise of BEL and L&T to synergise and enhance exports in the defence sector.

The MoU was made after extensive evaluation and identifying the core competencies and strong synergies between the two of them.

The L&T and BEL have collaborated on co-development and production of major sub-systems involving complex technologies and sophisticated weapon systems such as Akash Missile launchers and other radar platforms for Indian MoD orders.

The L&T and BEL partnership involves L&T’s manufacturing, system design and integration capabilities and extensive global footprint with BEL’s core competencies in electronic equipment and systems, it will enhance their product range, jointly evolve new products and enhance business prospects.

The L&T has been delivering a range of launcher systems, fire control systems and airframes/sub-systems for various indigenous weapon programmes as development partners and production agency to DRDO and DPSUs.
