Sukanya Samriddhi Sheme is a small saving scheme under the Government of India targeting the parents of any girl child and by this,the scheme
Focuses on encouraging the parents of the female child for building a fund for their future education and marriage expenses.This scheme was launched by
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 22nd January 2015 in Panipat,Haryana as a part of Beti Bachao,Beti Padhao campaign.
The scheme provides an interest rate of 8.4% and tax benefits to every account opened under it for July-September 2019.
The BBBP scheme has recently completed 6 years of its launch.
Key Facts and Census Data
The scheme was launched on the occassion of National Girl Child Day on 24th January and this day was started by the Ministry of Women and
Child Development in 2008. This scheme was launched with a funding of Rs 100 crores and targeted mainly to the clusters in Uttar
Pradesh,Haryana,Bihar,Uttarakhand,Punjab and Delhi.
Bhartiya Janta Party has formed a National Executive Committee to promote Beti Bachao Beti Padhao across the country.National Executive
Committee is responsible for organizing several programs to promote "Save Girl Child" and "to Educate Girl Child" since January 2015.
The National Convener of BBBP Abhiyan is Dr.Rajendra Phadke.
According to the census data in India,in 2001 the child sex ratio (0-6years) was 927 girls per 1000 boys.
And later in 2011,it dropped to 918 girls per 1000 boys.As per the 2012 reports of UNICEF ,India ranked 41st among 195 countries and a population
census of 2011 revealed that the population ratio of India is 919 females per 1000 of males.
