The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on 20th December 2017, has approved the Ministry of Railways' transformative initiative to set up the first ever National Rail and Transport University (NRTU) at Vadodara, Gujarat.
The Railway University will come up as a Deemed University under ‘de novo’ category as per the Universal Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2016.
A not-for-profit Company under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013 will be created by the Ministry of Railways which will be the Managing Company of the NRTU. The company will also provide financial and infrastructural support to the NRTU.
The NRTU will focus to carry out innovation and modernisation for the Indian Railways such as satellite-based tracking, Radio Frequency Identification and Artificial Intelligence to improve on-the-job performance and productivity in order to promote ‘Make in India’ and help India to emerge as a global leader in the transport sector.
