The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi on 4th April 2018 has given its approval to signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Afghanistan for cooperation in the field of food safety and related areas.
The MoU will have to be signed between Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL), Afghanistan.
The MoU will devise information sharing training and capacity building measure between India & Afghanistan.
The MoU will help to learn from each other’s best practice to improve food safety ecosystem.
Under the MoU, the areas of cooperation under the agreement include Establishment of mechanism for information exchange and communication; Facilitating organization of joint seminars, workshops, visits, lectures, training programme, etc; Facilitating technical exchange on identified topics of interest especially about import procedures, quality control operations, sampling, testing, packaging and labeling & Other areas of interest to participants within their responsibilities as they may mutually determine.
