India, Afghanistan ,Iran held the first tripartite meeting on Chabahar port project

India, Afghanistan and Iran held the first tripartite meeting on 23 October 2018 on Chabahar port project.

The implementation of the project was reviewed in this. The significance of this meeting is more because of this strategically important port that is coming under the purview of US sanctions on Iran.

Through the Chabahar port, the three parties have detailed discussions for the full operation of the tripartite agreement for international transit and transport.

India, Afghanistan and Iran signed an agreement in May 2016 under which the Chabahar port used to make transit and transportation corridor between the three countries.

A decision was also made in the meeting to set up a follow-up committee whose first meeting will be held in Chabahar port within two months.

India is investing $ 500 million to develop Chabahar port, which will help the country reach Afghanistan directly. The road to go to Afghanistan now passes through the road to Pakistan.

India last year sent 11 lakh tonnes of wheat as an aid to Afghanistan through Chabahar. India had assisted in the construction of the road to connect Afghanistan with Chabahar.

With the launch of the Trilateral Chabahar initiative fully operational, connectivity in Afghanistan and the surrounding area will increase and economic development will be done.
