'Rasagola' The famous sweet of Odisha got Geographical Indication Certificate

Odisha received the official recognition for its famous sweet 'Rasagola' from the Geographical Indication of India.

The 'Odisha Rasagola' got its registration after years of controversy under Section 16(I) or of authorized Section 17(3)(c) of Geographical Indication of Goods Act 1999.

The West Bengal and Odisha, both were in competition to prove the origin of Rasagola. The statement provided by Odisha says that the Rasagola is related to the Puri Jagannath Temple.

Using historical references as Dandi Ramayana and Utkal Deepika, Odisha succeeded to prove the origin of Rasagola in its own region.

These pieces of evidence mention plentiful use of Rasagola in Odisha in early days.
