Deficiency disease is a disease caused by the lack of some essential or important element in the diet, usually a particular vitamin or mineral. Lack of sufficient dietary elements such as proteins, vitamins and nutrient minerals causes various deficiency diseases, according to Healthline. In short, we can also say diseases that are caused by the deficiency of any nutrient in our body are called deficiency diseases.

Some deficiency disease and their causes are:-

 Night blindness:- In this disease, person cannot see properly in dark. It is caused by the deficiency of vitamin A.

 Rickets:- It is characterized by weak and soft bones, bowed legs and bone deformities. It is caused by the deficiency of vitamin D.

 Goitre:- Goitre leads to enlarged thyroid glands causing hypothyroidism, poor growth and development of infants in childhood, cretinism and even mental retardation. It is caused by the deficiency of calcium.

 Anaemia:- In this disease, the person becomes pale and feels tired quickly. It is caused by the deficiency of iron.

 Scurvy:- In this disease, decaying of the skin and gums, abnormal formation of teeth and bones, delay or inability to heal wounds and bleeding are the effects of scurvy on the body. It is caused by deficiency of Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid).
