India has been elected as a member of ITU International Telecommunication Union for another four-year term.
The election to the council was held during the ongoing ITU Plenipotentiary Conference 2018 at Dubai.
India elected by securing 165votes and ranking third among the 13 countries elected to the council from Asian-Australasia region.
In ranking India is in 8th position among 48 countries. The ITU has 193 members states that elect representatives to the council.
The telecom minister Manoj Sinha we are delighted to see India as a member of ITU council once again.
He too said that India is on target to make ITU South Asia area office technology innovation center at Delhi operational by January 2019.
India been an active member of ITU since 1869 and been a regular member of the ITU council since 1952.
The ITU has 193 member states who elect representatives to the council.
Being the member of ITU India has made space in technological development as making rank between the countries it is an achievement for the countries itself.
